Quote of the Day

Your manuscript is both good and original, but the part that is good is not original and the part that is original is not good.

THE SN65 PROJECT JOURNAL

Welcome to the SN65 project car section of the website.

This section is dedicated to the successes and failures, the ups and downs, the trials and tribulations, the sleepless nights, the "what the #$&* have I done" lows and the ultimate joys of building a custom car.  We have tried (some times more successfully than others) to document all the phases of this project from start to finish.

By clicking on the menu to the left, you will be able to view the entire project on a month by month basis.  There you will find each and every photo ever taken along with the corresponding updates.

SPECIAL NOTE:
We have just returned (5/22/06) from the World Ford Challenge where we took first place in our category (65 through 06 Super Modified Street Machine).  We also took the award for "Best In Show"

Next stop on the show circuit is the "Good Guys Show" in Columbus, OH.  See you there the weekend of 7/08/06.

SPECIAL NOTE:
We have just returned (4/24/06) from the Year One Experience where we took first place in our category (65 through 73 Mustang).  Also, we were one of the finalists for the "Year One Cup".  Being one of the finalists was a thrill for us, especially because we were the first Ford to ever make it to the final three.

Next stop on the show circuit is the "World Ford Challenge" in St Louis, MO.  See you there the weekend of 5/19/06.

SPECIAL NOTE:
We have just returned (3/6/06) from the Autorama where we were presented with the “Outstanding Engineered” award.  The Judges said that this was the most well engineered auto they have seen in a long time.  The attention to detail was phenomenal and the execution of the concept was extraordinary.  All we needed was about half a mil in chrome and we would have been a “serious” contender for the "Ridler".  They told us that, in their opinion, this award is one of the most prestigious awards that they present and that they take it very seriously.  They also said that “if they had known just how nice the car was, they would have placed it right up front with all the “great 8” Ridler contenders.”  Evidently, they did not take us seriously when we told them just how nice the car was.  I am sure that everyone they talk to says that their car is “really, really nice”.  Also, they didn’t know us from Adam, they didn’t understand exactly what we had done and they didn’t want to take a chance on some unknown guys from an unknown shop in Illinois.  I do not think that they will make the same mistake next year.

Also, many at the show had many nice things to say about the project, but the following quote just blew me away.  I thought we were a bit enthusiastic about the project, but Paul has taken it to another level.

Amazing! I spent a solid hour checking out the SN65 Project; mostly because I was just simply blown away with the level of craftsmanship and detail of this ultra stellar build! You just simply could not determine where the old met the new, as the execution was just perfectly seamless. When I first saw this project in the members section (Lateral-G.net) a while back, I was intrigued by the concept, though honestly I didn't give it much thought afterwards. Then lo and behold, I stumbled across the finished masterpiece at the '06 Detroit Autorama last night and found myself just truly amazed! Talented, gifted, supreme mastery of craftsmanship, incredible attention to every possible detail, visionary - these are all the terms that come to mind now when I think of this project!

SPECIAL NOTE:
The project is now being documented by V8TV.  I am not quite sure when the show sill air, but I will keep you posted on when and where.  For those who do not have access to the show through their cable or satellite network, we will try and make a DVD available from this site.

A quote from Kevin of V8TV...

We shot the SN65 today... what a friggin' awesome car. To see this thing in person is just a mind blower. We were extremely honored to have the opportunity to point our camera at the car.

Personally, I think one of the best attributes of this car is that it looks like it was built new on a Ford production line. The quality is 1st rate. There is no visible structural transition between the '65 and the Cobra. Bob and Wayne are really doing an incredible job. The Cobra dash looks like it was made for the '65 shell, and the use of all the Ford systems makes the car even more unique. I could go on for days.

I'll keep the board posted on when the V8TV episode with this car airs.

NOTE:
It has come to my attention that people are not aware of how to get in touch with me personally.  If you have any comments or questions you can always e-mail me at RJ@SN65.com

To truly appreciate this project you really need to see it in person.  Or better yet, you need to take it for a ride.  Contact Julian's today and schedule a test drive.  You will be happy you did.

Recommended suppliers

Ford Racing Performance Parts
For create engines, engine blocks and assembly components, suspension, electrical, etc... Ford racing is always my first choice.  They have the knowledge and expertise to make any project car a success.

DSS Racing
These engine building experts know all the ins and outs of building reliable high performance Ford engines.  If you are in need of a state of the art, high performance Ford engine, built to the highest quality standards, these are your guys.

Bowler Performance Transmissions
If you are looking for a transmission for your project car, look no further than Bowler.  They know the ins and outs of transmissions like no other.  Before making any decision on a trans call Bowler.  You will be happy you did.

HTP Welding
We have been using their welding and plasma equipment in the shop for quite a while.  They are a quality product that we have found them to be rugged and very reliable.  We recommend them highly.  If you are looking for welding equipment for your shop or home check out the line of equipment offered by HTP.

Whipple Superchargers
Quality, durability, performance and style all played a part in choosing Whipple as a supplier.  Those things combined with their customer service and the fact that Ford uses them as a supplier made them the obvious choice for the SN65 project.

MagnaFlow
We chose them as a supplier because of their sound, but we have been blown away by their quality and ease of installation.  If you like the sound as I do, you cannot go wrong with their products.

CenterForce
They are the first name I think of when the topic of clutches come up.  The product we are using on this project is new, so we cannot comment on the quality as of yet, but I have never been disappointed in the past.

Toyo
We were referred to Toyo by a racing friend of ours and are we ever grateful.  We have tried two different versions of the Toyo Proxies and these tires grip like no other tire we have ever used.  I have recommended them to a few friends and they all say the same thing.  These tires are the best they ever mounted to a set of rims.

NPD
They have always been my choice for early mustang restoration parts.  They offer competitive prices, friendly staff and fast delivery.

Riggs Brothers
We have used custom upholstery shops in the past, but none can compare to Riggs Brothers.  The attention to detail and the quality of the work is beyond compare.  If you need upholstery work of any kind (marine, automotive, etc...) and you want it done right call on Riggs Brothers.

Forgeline
When we first realized that the stock 03 Cobra rims were not going to give us the final fit we desired, we scoured the net for alternatives.  Nothing that was available as a "stock" rim was going to solve our particular wheel fitment issues.  When Forgeline heard that we were having troubles, they stepped up with the best possible solution.  Doug is great to work with and their product is exceptional.  If you are looking for a custom set of wheels to solve any type of issue, give them a call.

Speed Inc & Kurgan Motor Sports
The fellows at Speed Inc really helped us out when we were in a pinch.  We needed dyno time and they bent over backwards to help us out.  On top of that, the tune on the car is fantastic.  Bob Kurgan did the tune and I really could not ask for more.  Excellent attention to detail and they work hard to achieve your personal goals.  If you are in the Chicago area and need your late model Stang tuned, these are the guys to go to.

The Color Shop
The Color Shop is our major supplier of auto body supplies.  We cannot recommend them highly enough.  If you need it, they have it.  There service and expertise are both exceptional.  If you need auto body supplies, go to The Color Shop.  You will be happy you did. (708) 547 -0855

3M
3M's automotive aftermarket division offers a complete line of products covering frame and body repair, paint preparation and everything in between.  We use all their masking, sanding, plastic repair and paint protection products in our shop.  Quality products at a reasonable price.

PPG
As far as we are concerned, there is only one paint system worth using and that is PPG.  They offer everything from factory correct paint systems to full out custom paint products.  For those looking for something a bit different, look at their "Hot Wheels, Spectraflame and Vibrance" series paints.
